DISC Training

What is DISC?

DISC is a behavior assessment tool based on the DISC theory of psychologist William Marston, which centers on four different behavioral traits: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Compliance. Here's a brief overview of each:

Our DISC Profiles continue to use the power of the “adapted” and “natural” plots to help people understand where their energy is placed at work.

  1. Dominance (D): This trait is about how a person responds to problems and challenges. Individuals with high 'D' traits are often very active in dealing with problems and challenges, are confident, and are risk-takers. They are direct, results-oriented, firm, strong-willed, and forceful.

  2. Influence (I): This relates to how a person influences others through communication and relationships. High 'I' individuals are usually very open and persuasive. They are outgoing, enthusiastic, optimistic, high-spirited, and lively.

  3. Steadiness (S): This trait reflects how a person responds to the pace of the environment. Those with high 'S' traits are often calm, patient, predictable, deliberate, stable, and consistent. They are good listeners, team players, and are understanding and friendly.

  4. Compliance (C): This concerns how a person responds to rules and procedures set by others. High 'C' individuals are accurate, analytical, detail-oriented, and conscientious. They are careful, precise, and systematic.

DISC assessments are used in a variety of settings, including workplace environments, for personal development, and in team settings, to enhance communication, team building, leadership, and productivity. By understanding their DISC style, individuals can learn to adapt their behavior in various situations, improve communication with others who have different styles, and leverage their strengths in both personal and professional contexts.

Sharing your story helps others hear your perspective in an emotionally safe space...I never knew James had the same experiences as me. Now I can understand why he connects so well with our team.

How do people or teams get trained in DISC?

DISC training begins with an online individual assessment to identify one's primary behavioral styles in Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Compliance. Workshops and seminars, led by Dan Ashe, a certified trainer, provides comprehensive understanding through interactive sessions. For those aiming to become trainers themselves, certification programs offer extensive training on the DISC model and coaching techniques.

Online courses and self-paced materials are available for flexible learning, complemented by video tutorials and practice assessments. Personalized coaching from certified DISC coaches can further deepen understanding and application in various scenarios. Practical application in real-life situations, coupled with follow-up sessions, reinforces learning and enhances the application of DISC principles in both personal and professional contexts.

Why spent the resources to get trained in using DISC language?

A work team might get trained in using DISC language for several key reasons, all of which aim to enhance team dynamics, communication, and overall effectiveness:

  • Improved Communication Understanding DISC styles helps team members recognize and appreciate different communication preferences. This can lead to more effective and clear communication, reducing misunderstandings and conflicts.

  • Enhanced Teamwork DISC training enables team members to understand and respect each other's behavioral styles. This understanding fosters a more cohesive and cooperative team environment where each member's strengths are utilized effectively.

  • Conflict Resolution Teams trained in DISC are better equipped to navigate conflicts. By understanding the underlying behavioral styles, team members can approach conflicts more constructively and empathetically.

  • Personalized Motivation and Management DISC training helps managers and leaders tailor their approach to suit the individual styles of their team members. This personalized approach can improve motivation, satisfaction, and performance.

  • Efficient Problem Solving Teams using DISC language can leverage the diverse perspectives and approaches of their members, leading to more innovative and effective problem-solving.

  • Adaptability and Flexibility DISC training encourages team members to adapt their behavior in different situations. This flexibility is key in a dynamic work environment.

  • Stress Reduction and Increased Morale By creating an environment of understanding and acceptance, DISC training can reduce workplace stress and improve overall team morale.

Overall, DISC training equips work teams with the tools to better understand themselves and each other, leading to improved collaboration, productivity, and a more harmonious workplace.
